From the outside looking in, other cities must think Chicago is turning into a barbaric place. As of late, we have gained national attention from the news as they highlight every murder. Is it really that bad or are we over sensationalized? Both. The H.O.O.D: Heroes On Our Doorstep was filmed before the brutal murder of Derrion Albert. Led by the power of Chicago Activist, Mama Brenda Matthews, The H.O.O.D, not only tells the story of the teenagers who have witnessed and suffered from the rising murder rate in Chicago, but it was also created to reach out and offer a solution to this devastating epidemic.
There were 510 murders in Chicago during 2008, 80% of the victims were killed by gunfire, and half were between the ages of 10 and 25. The bottom line is our children aren’t growing old anymore; they are dying before their time and at alarming rates.
“Somebody better say something, somebody better do something, somebody better feel something…before…it….is…too…late” ~Mama Brenda Matthews
